The Photo Exhibit at the Hill House Museum has been so successful we are extending it until the end of May. However, we will return to our regular hours for tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays noon-3:00.
Celebrating our volunteers!!!!
Through our volunteer efforts, the Hill House Museum is able to showcase to the community Portsmouth’s only historic house museum. The selfless spirit of our volunteers allows for many countless hours of dedication in-turn strengthening the fabric of our community. The individual threads each volunteer weaves into making the Hill House Museum an opportunity to showcase this amazing historic treasure which is greatly appreciated and recognized during National Volunteer Week, April 16-22.
In fact, the current photo exhibit, Picture This!, would never have happened if it was not for the volunteers who put in many hours to make the exhibit such a huge success. This is just one of the behind-the-scenes examples of how valuable our volunteers are in supporting the mission to preserve Portsmouth’s rich history for the public to enjoy.
If you have not visited the Picture This! photo exhibit or have heard everyone talking about it, stop by on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays noon-4:00 to tour the exhibit. Also, when you visit the Hill House Museum one of our many volunteers will greet you at the door and make you feel like family.
Want to join our volunteer base? We have many opportunities to match your interests and schedule!

Holiday Homes tour
On Saturday the Hill House Museum participated in the OTPCL Holiday Homes tour. Many visitors stopped by the museum to see the festive decorations. We want to thank the OTPCL for allowing us the opportunity to partner with them, it was a great holiday event.
Happy Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving upon us we are featuring a few of the objects in the Hill House Museum relating to food and entertaining for this important day.
The kitchen being the main artery for this holiday, it was necessary to have a reliable cooking source. In the museum’s kitchen you can see the evolution of cooking from the fireplace to the cast-iron stove then to the electric range.
Next, we step into the dining room. In the background is the sideboard where the food would have been placed and served from. The table is set and ready for the Thanksgiving feast prepared just a few rooms away. One of the many pieces of Hill family china is this beautiful turkey platter.
One can only imagine how many Thanksgiving meals were prepared and eaten throughout the many decades when the Hill family occupied the house.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE FROM THE HILL HOUSE MUSEUM.
